The Katsina State Sports Council has announced Saturday, 16 August 2025, as the official kickoff date for this year’s Governor’s Cup Football Competition.
The opening ceremony will be held at Abdulmumini Aminu Township Stadium, Kankia Local Government Area, featuring a curtain-raiser match between the host team, Kankia LGA, and Ingawa LGA.
Executive Director of the Sports Council, Alhaji Abdu Bello, disclosed this after a meeting with zonal secretaries at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina. He said preliminary matches across various centres would commence immediately after the opening game.
Bello urged all participating local governments to maintain discipline and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. He also commended Governor Dikko Umar Radda for his commitment to developing sporting activities in the state.
The event is being organised in collaboration with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Katsina chapter.
